Waltham Forest Boxing Club’s Zeryab Ali got off to a flying start on his debut fight at the Haddenham and Ely show in Cambridge at the weekend.
The 19-year-old pulled on the famous green and yellow vest to take on home boxer H Joel in an U65kg contest.
Ali raced out of his corner like a bull at a gate in the opening session, with his fast flowing combinations leaving Joel soon inspecting the ref’s fingers for a standing eight count.
The Forest puncher took on board the advice of his corner between rounds and went out delivering a similar performance in the second. A flurry of combinations and straight shots resulted in the home boxer facing another standing count.
Ali wasn’t able to keep up the ferocious pace in the final session, but by then he had already done enough to secure a unanimous verdict from the judges.
Delight coach Ken Oram said: “That was some debut from the lad.
“He has worked very hard on his fitness and that told in the opening rounds, where his opponent struggled with the quickness Ali was getting his shots off.”
